(San Antonio -- WOAI) -- Shopping in Texas took on the air of the Wild West at a Sears store in San Antonio, where one shopper pulled a gun on another shopper who had cut in front of him in line.
San Antonio Police Officer Matthew Porter says an unruly crowd had gathered at the store when it opened Thursday night at San Antonio's South Park Mall.
Porter says one shopper jostled his way to the front of the line, and cut in front of other shoppers who were waiting.
"It appears that there were two individuals involved in a verbal altercation," Porter said. "At one point one of the individuals punched the other in the face, causing the man to pull out his concealed handgun."
Porter says the appearance of a black semi automatic handgun caused the rowdy crowd to quiet down in a hurry.
"At that point, the individual that punched him in the face fled the scene," Porter said. "Officers were unable to locate him."
He says the people in the store started running.
"It appeared there was a little bit of chaos after the gun was pulled," he said. "We received multiple calls on the incident."
Porter says the man with the gun was not charged because he has a concealed handgun license and felt 'in fear for his safety.' He says the gun was never pointed at anybody and was never fired, and after calming down, everybody 'went back to their shopping.'
